Happy Labor Day Weekend!

Per the US Department of Labor, "Labor Day, the first Monday in September, is a creation of the labor movement and is dedicated to the social and economic achievements of American workers. It constitutes a yearly national tribute to the contributions workers have made to the strength, prosperity, and well-being of our country." (DOL)

Most of us have off on Labor day as it's a federal holiday but there are plenty of people out there that still work on the day dedicated to acknowledge the American worker. So please take the time to thank the men and women who serve our country, police officers, fireman, salespersons, nurses, doctors, drivers (HRT/taxicabs), restaurant servers, event planners, news anchors, amusement park employees, and anyone working on Monday as they don't get a day off.

And if you do have off... ENJOY IT! Also please don't drink and drive!

Cloth Diapers

So, I said that, occasionally, I would post about personal stuff going on in my life. Well here goes:

I'm an earth lover. I try to recycle, clean up after myself, drive a fuel efficient car, occasionally dry clothing outside, turn lights off when not in use, and the like. I'm now going one step further, I'm using cloth diapers!

I know this may seem so out-dated but it's actually coming back in-style and is much easier than what cloth diapers were in the past. Now they're easy and oh so cute! They range from pre-folds with a cover to all-in-ones that are much like a disposable diaper. I personally like one-size pocket diapers. These are diapers that can fit a child from about 10lbs-35lbs roughly from birth to potty training! Not only I'm I saving the planet one diaper change at a time but I'm also saving money! See an example here at FuzziBunz site. (Just one brand of CD)

Anyhow, there is a local shop here in Virginia Beach called Diaper Junction it's a brick & mortar store that sells cloth diapers, covers, and accessories. They always have great deals going on and the more you buy the more you save with a program they call "Stash Cash". Currently they have a give-away going on for 6 Kawaii pocket diapers! (See here --->) http://www.clothdiaperblog.com/feed-your-stash-friday-enter-to-win-6-kawaii-one-size-diapers-ends-08-24-11/

Hopefully I gave some new insight on how to be more eco-friendly, even with babies! If you have any ways to help the environment please post them!

Happy Earth Day!

Go out and make the world a better place!

Pledge an act of Green here at http://act.earthday.org/

I'm planting marigolds and echinacea in my flower beds today. I also picked up trash around my neighborhood that didn't make it in the trash truck today ( darn that wind! ;) ) and finally I carpooled today at lunch!

It's the little things that count! So, what are you doing today?!

A real estate agent's true view of a real estate transaction.

I've been thinking that HGTV should have a program that shows what a true real estate transaction looks like. Shows like House Hunters let it be assumed that all you need to do to buy a home is sign one piece a paper, hold your breath, and BOOM you've just bought a house. (If it were only that simple!)

*They don't show the back and forth between seller to agent, agent to agent, and then agent to buyer.
*They also don't show the countless homes that an agent takes the buyers to go show. (Trust me it is very rarely just 3 homes they look at.)
*Then you've got to get signatures on an offer. That offer then has to get ratified, (approved by all parties).
*Then a home inspection if applicable.
*Then comes an appraisal in most cases, especially if the loan is government backed, (think FHA loans).

Long story short, this is only a part of the real estate agent's responsibilities. I'm not covering any of the financing that is involved! So as you can see a lot more is involved than the initial signature on an offer. And it can take a while to find the right home for you and then for a standard deal it can take about a month to close and finalize everything.

Just so you can see a little into my schedule this week: On Thursday of last week, I received the ratified contract on a home in Virginia Beach for a great couple that I've been working with for 6 months. I've set the home inspection for Wednesday and then as long as all goes as planned we'll have an appraisal on Thursday. After that we should be in good standing and we're hoping for a great closing towards the end of February!

Now I'm not posting this to complain...far from it! I only wish to inform and better prepare those looking to buy a home. I love what I do and I'm always super happy to help anyone during any phase of their home buying journey!

2010 was a busy year!

Last year has come and gone and I was extremely blessed to meet and help many buyers find homes! In 2010 I dealt with HUD properties, short sales, REO's (bank owned properties), and several private listings. My husband and I even bought our first home and happily took advantage of the first-time home buyer tax credit.

This year is going to be no different! I plan to do a complete overhaul of my website including adding a testimonial section, post much more frequently on my blog, I'm finishing the final steps to becoming a REALTOR®, and lastly in late summer my husband and I are welcoming our first child into the world! 2011 is looking very promising and you too can share in my delight.

If you are just starting out in your home buying or selling journey please call/email me so I can assist you and make it a pleasurable experience. As the first month of 2011 comes to an end I just want to say thank you for your business and I look forward to working with you!
